Hypnotherapy
Integrated Healing with Hypnosis
What is Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is an age-old technique that was practiced
in the "sleeping chambers" of Egypt more than 3,000 years ago.
Hypnotherapy or hypnosis-therapy is as natural as breathing, yet it is
often misunderstood. Quite simply, Hypnosis is a term used for a natural
state of heightened awareness that is frequently accompanied by feelings
of deep physical and mental relaxation. Most of us experience hypnosis
many times each day
when we day-dream or shift our thoughts to another
time and place, we are in a self-imposed hypnotic state. Also, we are
actually in a hypnotic trance when we 'space out' while driving a car,
or experience time distortion while involved in a good book, project,
sporting event or movie.
Hypnotherapy is a self-empowering technique,
requiring a partnership of mutual trust and respect between a person and
their Hypnotist. The Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist has the ability to guide
the person into a relaxed "trance" state where conscious distractions
are minimized and greater awareness is given to subconscious thoughts
and memories. The most common misconception of hypnosis is that it is
something done TO a person
this is far from true! While in hypnosis,
the client is in complete control of where their mind travels and is aware
of everything that transpires during the session, accepting only those
suggestions that suit their needs.
Often, people find themselves unknowingly
locked into destructive, self defeating patterns - trapped by subconscious
messages from their past. Hypnotherapy allows them to access the origin
of this negative programming which was frequently established in early
childhood or possibly genetic memory. Deep layers of buried emotional
pain limit personal growth and tend to destroy the positive qualities
of life. Hypnotherapy helps the mind to recognize the origins of the pain,
gain understanding, release negative programming and promote healthy choices
for recovery. Simply put, hypnotherapy "de-hypnotizes" the mind,
allowing it to let go of old historical recordings and to re-program the
master computer-mind with healthy new programs
with well-chosen messages and affirmations.
"Man's mind stretched to a new idea can never
return to its original dimension."
~ Oliver Wendell Holmes |
Hypnotherapy is often used in conjunction
with other health care or personal growth therapies, serving to enhance
and complement traditional treatments and procedures. While receiving
hypnotherapy, it is recommended that people work concurrently with their
Primary Caregiver for any medical condition.
How does Hypnotherapy work?
Self discovery through Hypnosis reveals many situations
that affect our human condition. When applied by a qualified, competent
professional, Hypnosis creates a powerful state of heightened awareness
in someone with a receptive mental attitude. This awareness provides a
dynamic responsiveness which allows the person to bypass conscious layers
of protective resistance.
Once open to the vast subconscious mind, deep seated emotions that are
underlying the problem are safely accessed. Negative behavior patterns
are often discovered to be emotional reactions to old situations and buried
memories. While in trance, the wise mind is able to gain a mature understanding
of the situation and release the old patterns and emotional reactions.
The mind is then willing to accept new thoughts and feelings and embrace
a choice of healthy attitudes and behaviors. Activating and encouraging
the minds amazing self-healing power provides immediate and dramatic benefits
for those who are open, willing and ready for the adventure.
People who benefit the most from hypnosis are those
who are interested in taking control of their lives and are ready to assume
responsibility for their own health and well being. Hypnosis is an avenue
used to discover the root of the problem issue, gain understanding and
release it for good. Once the negative programs are removed, then positive
affirmations are able to take root and grow in the fertile bed of positive
thought. A key partner for this inner journey, the Hypnotist is a gentle
guide and skilled facilitator, a navigator on the path of discovery toward
self-healing, recovery and empowerment.
